Not for Wigan to absorb his errors.
Sad for Joe, this loan was two years too late! His confidence must be shot to pieces but that said, I would prefer he doesn't return to stink the place out and maybe, he needs to consider going further down the leagues until he finds his level to start rebuilding his career from.
If no clubs come in, then I'd pay him up and cut him loose. |  |

The club that has loaned the player is not allowed to cancel the loan & the club that loaned out the player can't recall them until January.
They COULD return Walsh to Rangers but they would have to pay whatever was in the loan agreement (wages etc). I don't think he would be allowed to play for Rangers or join anyone else.
We do have past history with these situations with Richards at Cambridge & JET at Gillingham. | | | |

You can make stats do what you want by the application of your bias and by simply ignoring the stats that don’t suit your argument.
A fit and firing JCS is a very valuable player but his reliability is undoubtedly an issue. I would however point to our other issues with the clubs medical team over the past two years and potentially the desire to get him back playing earlier than perhaps we was ready to. It is also undeniable that he didn’t play more than 15 games in either of the past two years and didn’t look robust for a number of those games.
Further, and to put my cards on the table, I refer to him as Mr Glass and my 10 year old has over the past 3 years asked about ‘glass guy’ on a regular basis when talking about injured players.
But on the other side it’s not entirely true to say he’s only ever played 30
Games a season once….
In 23/24 he played 33 games for us.
In 21/22 he played 31 games for Cov
In 18/19 he played 37 games for Vitesse
In other seasons there were other footballing reasons why his stats look worse than they are:
17/18 he was loaned to Sunderland in January for half a season, he played 11 games and got 2 red cards so was suspended for a period.
19/20 he played 19 games for Brum and was on the bench for 14 games…was was only missing due to injury for 6, just struggled to be a regular.
20/21 played only 10 games for Brum. Loaned at the end of October and because of a calf injury didn’t play until the end of November. From there he struggled to get into the team, playing 10, on the bench for 10 and not in the squad for the rest, but not reported as injured. Appreciate some may suggest the absence could be similar to his issues with us, but he was benched for a period and then not selected at all.
So playing devils advocate, you could put forward an argument that he’s very often injured, usually with niggles and me rarely gets a decent run of games because of it and therefore can’t be relied upon. Alternatively, you could form an argument that for 3 seasons he’s played a full part, for the half season at Sunderland he was fully involved and the two years at Birmingham he was in and out of the team mainly for footballing reasons….. |

Look, I'm not Joe Walsh's biggest fan. Or his smallest. But this looks like an absolute nightmare scenario for him.
I get that we should've given him time out on loan years ago (did wonders for Lumley at Bristol Rovers and Cooper at various clubs) but he looks fcuked at this point. Replaced at both his parent and loan clubs? Poor sod.
Can't catch a break in a role where catching is kind of important. |  |

Look, I'm not Joe Walsh's biggest fan. Or his smallest. But this looks like an absolute nightmare scenario for him.

I think you are wrong to write him off, like you do.
He wasn't great last season but there were times when he looked ok. His confidence has taken several hits but he was good enough at 17 to be on the bench in league one. He's still only 24 and has played less than 50 senior games.
He may not make it at our level but he is still in with a chance of an EFL career. Anything can happen at Wigan between now and January. Then, if necessary we can always try and find another loan for him. | | | |

I think there’s a need to just keep the DS going with bodies. Having lost Pearman, Sanyaolo, Adjetey Brew, Bennie, Leahy, Wilkie, McDowell and Tylon Smith these new players at least serve a very basic requirement. I’m sure there’s very little expectation that they’ll amount to anything as they’ve already been released by another Championship club but it keeps our reserve squad ticking over. I assume by ‘top level keeper’ you mean Premier League or Championship: he’s certainly good enough to play L1, L2 or Scottish Premiership. Parallels with Joe Lumley who has had a decent enough career.
