I paid today’s game little to no attention, went out of London for a lovely lunch and then drove back up the A3 in the sodding rain.
I told my mate at work to bet on Ipswich to score at least 3, I hope he did.
All I want this time next year, is something that doesn’t amount to us finishing near 16th again. A top 10 finish would be nice.

I said my father was the ref, not me.
However, according to him referees are instructed to use their own jurisdiction to blow at an appropriate point when time is up . Thats why , for example , if a penalty is awarded and full time is up, they don’t just blow the whistle to end the game , they allow the penalty to be taken .
They will allow corners to be taken and once headed clear or away from goal , then they blow for full time .
We saw 40 or so years ago a ref blow for full time when someone took a corner and the ball ended up in the net. It’s a famous clip .
And was widely regarded as terrible refereeing.
It’s called common sense .

Its kind of an unwritten law.
ie Many games they just take that last corner or wait for an attack to come to an end whoever is on the front foot.
Think we have all seen many games where time played goes on for another 30 seconds or so.
Never seen the opposite happen previously, but there is no official law as far as i know. Doubt there is.
So probably in reality, he is in the right, but generally not the done thing. |  |

Awful end to a season where one set of problems have been replaced with another and we continue to be consistently inconsistent, so that's clearly not successful or very progressive.
Bizarre season throughout with the goalkeeper situation, injuries, team selection, substitutions, no substitutions, poor application of the basics and that bloody awful pink kit.... the list is endless.

But we all knew this season we would be inconsistent, even Noury said so, due to the team being so young. I have no problem with that.
We have finished 16th with older players, loaned in players, players whose contracts were up. We are in a lot better place than previous years to kick on.
What does need to be fixed is the conditioning of the players, that has been scandalous. | |

I don’t get to many games, but I was there yesterday and I have to say, this club really doesn’t deserve the fantastic support it gets. A sell out for a game that had 3-0 or worse written all over, yet the noise and humour was incredible.
Great atmosphere in the pub, some nutters in fancy dress, honestly, it really left me wondering how so many of you manage to do it, week in, week out. I fcking love the lot of you.
Then this team come and fold before the clock is in double fcking figures. I don’t go often enough to comment on whether JS is good enough or not, but to send ANY 11 out and have them concede so easily from the off, so often, well, words fail me.
Good day out, apart from the game, that. Loved being among you all.
Oh, ps, yes, Gavin Ward is a total tw4t. Even when we looked vaguely, VERY briefly threatening in the second half, that little turd found a way to penalise us. Didn’t want it to be close in case a promotion hinged on a decision he might have to make at 2-1, probably. [Post edited 3 May 8:08]

Yes, we signed a few decent players (due to the Eze money) but our no-nothing DoF went into the season with a goalkeeper not good enough at this level, seemingly in the hope of 'developing' him. Can you imagine Warnock doing that? He signed Paddy Kenny and the rest is history. What was that stat on Walsh costing us ten goals this season? Probably higher by now too.
That's where we are - the person calling the shots lacks both experience and knowledge. How do you go into the season with an unproven goalkeeper? Just bonkers. | | | |

Mart the incident you are referring to was referee Clive Thomas in the 1978 world cup in Argentina. Thomas was a strict, and often controversial, interpreter of the laws of the game with the nickname 'the book'.
Minimum added on time was not formalised back then, it was left totally to the discretion of the referee and he didn't have to tell anyone what he might be adding on. The only exception to this was that time would be added on for taking a penalty kick.
Around the 90 minutes mark, Brazil won a corner. To be fair to Thomas they procrastinated with taking it and it wasn't in the rules to add time on for a corner.
Brazil took the kick and he simultaneously blew for full time. They managed to score but he refused to allow the goal as time was up and the match ended 1-1.
In the modern game there is a convention that an attacking move is allowed to progress until the ball goes out of play or is cleared by a defender. Ward clearly didn't follow that yesterday. | | | |

Totally agree. We’ve made some decent signings, but then had some horrific retrograde steps elsewhere. The Goalkeeper position especially, and the fitness is let’s be honest a joke. Any fan of the club would say the problem position for years has been at full back that’s still not resolved either.
This desire to try young players is a noble pursuit but the players need to be good enough and I think the club and the positive vibes crew over egg just how many of these youth/younger players are up to the task. | | | |

We need to start next season with a defensive structure that doesn’t concede goals at the rate we have this season. We will never make any progress until we sort that out and it’s not just about a new right back or keeper.
