| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 21:46 - Dec 29 by HammersmithR | Absolutely appalling this evening. Too many changes. Could see this coming once we saw the team. So frustrating as WBA were garbage at our place. We can’t just chuck the likes of Morgan, Esquerdinha, Field and Morrison on the pitch when they have barely played in weeks. Too many of these squad players are not good enough. Where was Mbengue this evening? JCS has vanished again? Why was Smyth not used? Team just looked too unbalanced this evening. Now piles on more pressure on the next 2 games. We are our own worst enemies. Really wished Stephan had learnt from earlier in the season with all this tinkering. |
You can question the tinkering, changes and formation all day long, it’s the players that have to perform. League two standard football from all but Dunne and Morrisson. The lack of quality was mind boggling. Horrible performance.

| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 21:47 - Dec 29 by actonman | That looked like a game we p!ssed up the wall with an eye on the next by rotating players for the sake of it ! Watch us play our best 11 on Thursday and get turned over by Norwich now |
we had to make changes really playg Friday, Monday, Thursday, Sunday you can't play the same team in all 4 games and may well be a few knocks which is why Mbengue was missing. I thougth the team he picked was fine we just had too many players below their best. Varane, Saito, Kone and Madsen all very sloppy on the ball giving it away timer after time. Madsen did create a few chances but looked shattered towards the end The subs had no real impact, Vale in particular was really poor
| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 22:07 - Dec 29 with 1141 views | NorthantsHoop | We lost, we move on, got away with a draw at Portsmouth, tonight we didn't. Expected changes ok so some didn't work but looking at where we are this year to this time last year it is much more positive. Two home games in quick succession that we should look to win and keep our home form on the up. | | | |

| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 21:34 - Dec 29 by Malintabuk | Not trying to make excuses for this.....but was a fixture really necessary tonight? Friday we were down at Portsmouth and 3 days later playing in the midlands, while Brom were at home on Friday Bristol who beat them easily are away to Wall and are losing now after being 1 up It looks like most of the games tonight were non events, there really needs to be a rethink about these festive fixtures. Why not just played Boxing Day, New Day and perhaps the 3rd game on the Wednesday after the New Year This schedule is brutal |
We now have two home games on the bounce so we should get 6 points by your logic?Hull won at Middlesbrough after playing away at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday. I think it was a extra game that nobody needed to play, but it will probably only be the losing teams that complain.

When do you play them then? I thought Morgan was fine, Field and Morrison did Ok as well, was more the regular players who were crap. JCS is injured again You can't play this many games over Christmas without multiple changes

| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 21:54 - Dec 29 by rbee | I thought overall the defence were poor, looked like conceding every time the ball was floated in to our area. |
They were. It was a poor defence on paper and we got what wax expected. Morgan is a good player, but no Full Back; Esquerdinha just not ready. Massive indictment on the squad that he feels that Isaac Hayden is not worth starting in front of Varane (who continues to be very, very poor), but can be used as a right back. Morrison has been poor all season and was tonight; that pass that Vale fckd up on should have gone long. I mean our centre back (the one that can actually head the ball) had gone up top for exactly that reason. Brain Dead. Saito needs a rest. No sugar coating it, he has been very poor all season. Just cos he smiles a lot, our fans love him no matter what. Kone is what he is; a young fella learning at this level. But a special mention to Harvey Vale. That was a nightmare for the ages; an utterly ridiculous performance. Yet more proof on how much we miss Chair despite posts like" Where does he fit into this team". Anywhere guys, anywhere.

I'd say, au contraire, that Varane, Kone, and Saito played very much like we've been seeing of late - i.e. excrementally! Varane is not, never was, and never will be good enough. Kone is draining my confidence with every game he plays - he's just not up to this level. Koki is pretty and smiley like a cat, but he was crap in his last game for us, as I pointed out, and he was even worse in this one. I suspect this is how it's going to go on being for us under Julie - one or two fizzy showings at home, and mismanaged slop away. Tonight, for me, we looked what we all too often are - feckless, gutless, and unutterably mediocre. Someone tell me why I'm wrong!

We do have a defensive coach by all accounts, yes It's easy to say this that and the other It makes no difference though. Maybe two maybe three of our players turned up tonight, the rest of them didn't unfortunately.

You are right Dave, the fixture schedule is awful this time of year. However, there are other ways of managing minutes. There is no reason why we can't start the same team and try to get off to a good start and make changes at half time, early second half. With good coaching and preparation players coming on should be able to do the same job as the player they are replacing. We have to try and break this cycle of good performance / bad performance because it is soul destroying and costing us too many points.

Couple of things. Not sure Vale was meant to come on, looks like Madsen has a knock. Bit hard to criticise a player who's had no football in 2 months. It's pretty clear Varane is being played so he can be sold. He's played just over 50 games for us now, so he may go in January.

| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 22:25 - Dec 29 with 798 views | CopenhagenRs | That was an absolute shocker of a game. Painful to watch the players constantly giving the ball away and misplacing passes from the first whistle to the last. As plenty have pointed out, this match was crying out for Paul Smyth to come on and inject some pace and energy – his work rate could’ve lifted the rest of the team, who were completely off it. Same goes for Kolli, finally on the bench. Both should’ve been thrown in at half-time at the latest. I just can’t wrap my head around waiting 70 minutes to make a change when everyone could see the first half was a complete mess. To be fair, WBA weren’t exactly convincing either. Roll on January 1st – it can only get better after hitting rock bottom tonight. | | | |

There were poor individual performances all over the place but I wonder though whether the total lack of fluidity was also in part down to the different shape, players in different positions, etc. We just didn't look like anyone knew where to be or where to anticipate anyone else being. I'm also genuinely puzzled by the fact Plan A in the first half appeared to be playing out from the back through Morrison and Esquerdinha, who between them and Hamer successfully played themselves into trouble over and over again. With a totally shuffled back four you'd think you'd avoid inviting pressure in that way. One big take away is how dependent we are on Burrell, for his ability to harass defenders on the ball and for his ability to stretch the opposition when he have possession.
| Baggie ball bags - Match Thread on 22:31 - Dec 29 with 692 views | Hooping_Mad | For me Saito isn't contributing enough over 90 mins, Poku had absolutely no right to start that match, and changing 3 at the back again ! Pick whatever tactics and formation you want. Play without bollocks and it won’t matter and that performance completely lacked bollocks. Lost the vast majority of the ‘duels’ and were simply cowardly with the ball, going backwards and mostly losing it anyway when we did have it in half decent positions through luck more than judgement. 2-1 down to a dire team low on confidence and it’s like a competition for how quickly we can play it back to Hamer from their half. | | | |

It wasn't acceptable but not all of us deal in absolutes where we just go on and on and just go after everyone at the club or everyone who can actually handle their emotions like a grown ups. I think you are absolutely chuffed to bits when we do shit if it prives you right. Is your ego out of control or taken such a bashing that you need little victories where you can find them. Do you need a hug little man. Saito not been playing well for a while. Should be taken out the side. Kone, 22 years old and has got here very quickly. He will have good and bad games. He needs pace around him to so he has options. He is never going to run away from defenders but he can hold them off and pass the ball on. He needs service in the area too. Let's right him off though half a season into his first season playing at this level [Post edited 29 Dec 22:36]
