Well he hasn’t played any games so should be a formality. Must mean Madman stays RB which is a good thing also, a lot of Reading fans said that was his best position anyway

Great news assuming it's true.

And great timing so we won't even care when the U11s play West Ham on Sunday .

He's bound to be rubbish now isn't he!

I note the last line of the report there where Nourry says: Obviously to finance this transfer we are asking fans over the age of 60 to liquidate their pensions!

Although, he's 22 so hopefully he has time to get his match minutes up and rediscover the form he had with us last time. I feel reasonably confident and slightly terrified at £4.5m.

The good thing is that we know he can read the game well at CB and I take from this that perhaps JCS's days are numbered in terms of being relied on to play more than a handful of matches. Edwards could also become a Declan Rice type player for us as well. For me he was (and I hope will be) the closest player we've had to Glenn Roeder.

Never knowingly right.

I presume the medical will be extensive:

1) Have you cut your hair recently?
2) Have you plans to cut your hair?
3) Have you changed your shampoo or conditioner?
4) Something about legs or something....
5) Have you enough hairbands?

Not sure he keeping with the system of buy cheap sell high. Do we need him ? The clubs financial situation is not great. What do I know. That's just such a lot of money for us to spend on one player will he upset the team we have here ? Decent when in have seen him and have read very positive reports. We do need to sure up the leaky defense, is a positive step. Hope it works out.

It's not buy cheap sell high, it's about selling for more - and the prospect of that is much higher when the player is a) sub 23, b) an England U21 international and c) even if it's just once, has played in the Prem

Nothing is guaranteed in football, but the underlying case for this investment is rock solid

£4.5m is a lot for a player in a position that's was less of a priority (though I guess Morrison and JCS are out), but I have to say I'm pretty chuffed.

Having Edwards next to Dunne feels like a serious back line.

I think done because he played well for us. It allowed us to progress from defence more and his ability to run and pass with the ball, improves other areas of our game. Him and Dunne would be a rather good pairing. I think also this means JCS doesn't need to be rushed back and also maybe we are cutting our loses with him, despite the contract extension

Absolutely fantastic news and very pleased we have signed him permanently.

£4.5 million is a lot but I do think he will do very well for us and if we dont go up in the next couple of seasons, then there would for me be no reason his sale price couldn't make a handy profit.

It is a risk at that price but I think Southampton never really rated him, really hard to understand that from what we saw last season, but am very happy he will be here.

Thought it wasn't going to happen.

I am off to the barbers to cultivate my Ronnie Barnet, all in our Ronnie wigs next home game then....

We spent close to 3million on Saito so this looks a very good investment.

Well if he continues to do well (and hopefully improve us too) then I'd hope he'd be good for a big bucks Prem move in the next few years. Maybe even more than Eze went for? I mean he's already in and around the England U21s too.

Well now

Previously I have thought that if we are going to spend this kind of money on a CB we need to get a taller more powerful player in there. I still do really, but JCS did show recently how useful it is to have someone who can play out from the back, so certainly not complaining.

I can also see him playing centre mid if required also. He did so in a couple of games for us last season..

Wonder what fee we weren't happy with paying when we were offered Edwards in the summer...

I don't think so, an element of the Saito transfer was.

Ronnie played well for us and seemed to fit in well at the club. Not forgetting his QPR supporting family.

Great news.

Ronnie Edwards on 15:45 - Jan 8 with 2006 viewsDWQPR

If I recall correctly we were looking at closer to £6million in the summer so £4.5million is a good buy. Spread over five years, which is now the maximum for amortisation calculations, assuming we have agreed this length of contract adds £900k to the debit column on the balance sheet. With the players we have signed in the last six months, such as Kone, Burrell, Saito, Poku and even potentially Mbengue, coupled with the younger players such as Morgan and Kolli we only need one of these players to fetch big money and all costs are covered.

Have seen on the Beeb that Dieng is negotiating a release from Middlesbrough and could be signing for Hull. And yet we extend Hamer’s contract to the summer. Would have loved to see Seny back. best keeper since Alex Smithies.

I'm pleased but I also wonder where that leaves the likes of Smith, Akindileni and others in the DS.

Cook will leave in the summer so that's a slot. And JCS; well who knows?

Maybe I've answered my own question.

Handsome.

Sorry, downvoted in error .

Great signing, if true. He can play centre back or in midfield, he's good on the ball, and he allegedly supports QPR.

It's not just that JCS and Morrison are injured, Cook is not playing brilliantly. We need someone *reliable* to play in central defence or Mr Versatile Bennie will find himself there .

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
