I also like Morrison and don't understand why some are negative about him. He's calm on the ball, good positionally and reads the game well. His relatively slight physique is something he can work on. He's still only 22.
For me the only real negative has been his injury record, but that's something that's an issue for plenty of other players in the squad.
Also, Morrison was at his best PAIRED with Ronnie...
Really hope it works. He was great on loan. But we're signing him two years too late at a million too much. It's one for the gallery on X.
Don't wanna be a party pooper, love watching players play well for QPR, but rather than buy Edwards in January for £4.5 million, Millwall bought Tristan Crama for less than a million from Brentford B last year and will be selling him - arguably the best, most versatile CB in the division now - for five times that at least in 18 months. Just as they did with Tanganga.
We used to be constantly outsmarted in the market by Brentford. Now we're constantly outsmarted in the market by Millwall. Two clubs who very quietly succeed with what QPR constantly tell the whole world they're going to do but rarely see through.
Drives me potty.
Anyway, sorry. Welcome Ronnie.
Akindilini and Smith are the two centre backs in that mould though.
Potential for a duet with Right Said Frey? Before we offload Michi...
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
I do get where Simmo and others are coming from in that would the money be better spent in areas where we are weaker but I do think Edwards is someone who has potential to be a star for us, improves the team and can play in midfield if needed as we saw last season.
Our defensive record this season is pretty poor and we are really only a Cook injury away from Sam Field back at centre half. As long as we can afford it I'm all for us signing him.
I agree that defensively we look more fragile than up front. Only one team (Wednesday) has let in more than us this season whereas we’ve scored more than five of the ten teams above us in the table.
Obviously we’re a bit light at fullback, particularly on the left, but it doesn’t seem daft to buttress our CB selection. Also one of Ronnie’s strengths, at least last season, was bringing the ball out from the back which I think only JCS is really good at from our current line up. It really was noticeable in those few matches he played how much difference he made. I’m hoping that will make a difference against the teams that try and shut us down rather than take the game to us. That extra ten metres of bringing the ball up takes pressure off the midfield and means people like Kone may not have to drop back so far to pick up the ball. That’s my theory anyway.
Also last season when he played DCM in the second half against Middlesbrough when we were being torn apart in the first half he can make a difference elsewhere when needed.
I know we are trying to develop players for profit but people also want results as well. It’s all a balance. A blend of rough diamonds and players further down the path seems like a sensible way forward.
However it does also make you think he was available only 18 months ago for £3m all in, from Peterborough and granted early doors he was at Barnet until he was 17/18 but he was soon winning P'boro POY awards and with a little diggin knowing the connection with his QPR supporting family it wouldnt of took a lot to bring him in as a developement player. Well its Darragh MacAnthony so he would want his usual wedge, but much cheaper than the £4.5m+ we are now paying.
However hindsight etc....Im over the moon but do love a bargin.
