Austin price drop. on 13:55 - Aug 9 by PunteR | I thought they had. My mistake. It just seems odd why they're dropping the price according to news reports. Clearly he's on a few clubs radar. |
i doubt they are dropping the price, just a lot of guess work
Austin price drop. on 21:50 - Aug 9 with 1836 views | qpr1976 | The problem with articles suggesting we"ll take £13m is that interested parties now know we're getting desperate and will offer £10/11/12m & chance their arm. I guess it's our best chance of Ramsey completing his squad coz. No way Philips is worth £10m !
Austin price drop. on 23:30 - Aug 9 with 1744 views | CiderwithRsie | Maybe I'm being stupid, but I don't get the idea that he has to be cheap because he's only got one year of his contract left. Every year, every year without exception, come the December transfer window there is at least one club staring at a relegation that they can't afford and desperate for a player who'll get then out of it. Not the likes of Bournemouth, who aren't dependent on staying up, but a Newcastle or Sunderland or Villa or Everton. God knows it was us every bloody year we were in the Premiership under Fernandes. For a club in that position £15m even with wages on top is a no-brainer if it keeps you in that league, which a guy with Austin's record could. For those clubs its no good saying "we can pick him for nothing in the summer" because it'll be too late, and they won't be able to anyway because they'll be relegated. Of course what would stop them paying that is if he's cr*p all season. If he was going to play silly b*ggers about a transfer he could easily have done that in the summer - most years there's some overpaid pillock throwing tantrums in the press. I suspect there's more behind his performance, maybe an injury. He's perfectly capable of ruthlessly moving on to a better deal - ask Burnley - and I don't blame him, but he's never sabotaged his team before to my knowledge, quite the contrary.
Austin price drop. on 00:11 - Aug 10 with 1703 views | qpr1976 | To be fair, we , as a club, are much closer to Bounemouth than we are to Newcastle, Sun'lan, Everton or Villa. Secondly, I think Austin's performance yesterday was only marginally worse than the last month of last season. He looked half fit then and certainly didn't put himself about as much as before. I actually thoought he wasn't terrible yesterday, just didn't get much service and I don't think he's suited to being a lone striker. Philips was worse. He was setting up Austin with crosses for fun late last season. It says something when Mackie at Left wing is more productive & dangerous than Philips on the right.....!
Austin price drop. on 01:32 - Aug 10 with 1661 views | VancouverHoop | Philips seems to one of those players that runs hot and cold. There are extended periods – after an injury, or an extended lay-off like the summer break – when he looks lost. Then he finds his game and becomes devastating. It might work to our advantage to have the sluggish version until after the deadline.

"I suspect there's more behind his performance, maybe an injury" Simpler than that. Lack of match fitness/sharpness. As Clive's excellent as always match report said, he's only had one full pre-season run out in the summer.

think the amount of timber he was carrying sat didnt help either , does supprise me how certain players dont bother over the summer break trying to keep fit , austin main problem is he cant play the lone striker role and most prem teams play one up front these days , great finisher but dog awful outside the box trying to hold the ball up

Austin price drop. on 09:54 - Aug 10 with 1502 views | adhoc_qpr | The Mirror is probably making things up - but i'd take £13m with cash upfront just to get this situation sorted. Get Charlie and Phillips out and get their replacements sorted - although i suspect we're planning to loan in players in rather spend any money now.

They supposedly have replacements lined up but that wont happen until the others leave. If they go deadline day then it will be loans, as replacements. CR doesnt particularly like loans as they are harder to manage and motivate for your club, though obviously prepared to use for emergencies like Konk for our four injured left backs
Austin price drop. on 12:23 - Aug 10 with 1405 views | YorkRanger | My personal view is that (sadly) the sooner he is sold the better. Phillips as well for that matter. That will then give us half a chance to strengthen/replace before the window closes. Given the millions that has been squandered at the club, I seriously question why we would try and hold out for £15m if say £13m was on the table. I know its only paper talk, but closing this deal out and moving on has to best for the club.

You can't have it both ways, if we're broke we need to use loans like everyone else in the Championship to add numbers and quality. I'm sure Ramsey would rather have a loan striker to replace Austin than just Poulter and Grego-Cox. Plus there is not many strikers available for sub £5m who we would want, not that we'll spend that kind of money anyway.

I agree. The slight concern is how good is he at managing loans. We have had poor ones in the past and great ones, too. Anyone else curious as to whether CR thinks Blackwood can break through. liked the look of him against Atalanta
